LAND At Martello Tower, Aldeburgh

In January I went to Aldeburgh for the day and came across this sculpture by Antony Gormley. It is a cast iron, life-sized figure and is one of five sculptures across the UK that make up the piece called LAND. It stands on top of the Martello Tower and faces east across the North Sea. As you can see from my picture, when I finally reached the tower it was almost dark, but I did manage to see it! I studied Gormley at Sixth Form so I was interested to take a look. If you want to catch it I think you have until May 2016.

  1. We were visiting Aldburgh today, our first time there. Unfortunately we didn’t walk far enough to see the Martello tower. The town was lovely though.

    1. Hello Georgie, sorry for the late reply! It was my first time there too, I saw a poster about the Gormley sculpture on the tower on the seafront and decided to go a look at it, it was a long walk though and was almost dark when we got there! I think you have until May to see it, perhaps you will be able to catch it!

  2. I’m glad you got to see it. I always find out about these things too late. I don’t expect we can visit again for ages, as we live miles away.
